I'd love to hear about your zoo!

Every one of my animals has a story. Most are rescues of varying degrees. I won't include my Hubby and 3 kids in this. I tried putting them in order of when they came to us but some came close together:

1 & 2) Harry & Hermione. Cockatiels. There was a third, Ron, but he passed last year. They were Nate's 10th birthday present. They came from a woman looking to rehome them. No names, no real interaction, fairly wild but they did great once we started working with them.

3) Ginny. I drove in to my Sis' place to drop Abby off and Tina was coaxing this pathetic little kitten to eat from a dish outside. I ended up putting her in the car and taking her to my vet. Turns out it's a very good thing. They told me she had a respiratory infection and other issues that would probably have killed her within a week or two more. There are pics from the day I brought her home. She looks to be part Siamese but her growth is still stunted. She'll never be much bigger than a 5-6 month old kitten. It took her a year to come out and be in the same room if the kids were in the house/awake. Another year and she is coming to me to pet her on occasion.

4) J.C. Another Cockatiel. He was one of Mom's "problem birds" that she rescued. Un-tame, biter that needed more work and one-on-one than she could provide. He was another bird for Nate. He worked with J.C. and now he will socialize and be held.

5) Twyla. She is a Button Quail that was supposed to be paired up with one of Tina's but she decided she preferred being a "house-bird" instead and is my baby. She shares a cage with Carmen, my one-legged Cockatiel.

6) Blackie. She was Lyssa's birthday present this year. She lost her cat, TJ, last year and we felt the time was right for her to have another cat. Turns out she was born on Hubby's birthday!

7 & 8) Midnight & Moonlight. A pair of Button Quail.

9) Angel. One of Mom's neighbors was moving to a place where she would have to bring her outdoor cats in and Angel was an indoor cat only a few months old. The outdoor cats didn't like Angel but had been there much, much longer so I took Angel.

10) Buddy. Another Button Quail. He broke his leg early on (very easy for these little birds to do!) and it was felt he shouldn't be with a mate due to the break. He now shares a cage with J.C. and they are close pals. I don't think we could successfully separate them now.

11) Hector. Button Quail. Originally being rehomed after hatching. His mate nearly killed him so since he was the offspring of a pair of mine I took him back and nursed him back to health. He won't be paired up though. Turns out he has his father's temper. The father killed the mother, then a second mate, then nearly killed Twyla so when I had the opportunity to rehome him, I did. Hector will stay with me though. He has a sweet personality just is very aggressive with a mate.

12) A hermit crab. I thought I lost him to a molting gone wrong because he didn't come out of the soil for over a month. I finally decided to check on him and he's fine.

13) Carmen. She is a one-legged Cockatiel. Another rescue. She most likely had the foot bitten off by one or both parents as a chick. The leg is there but twisted around behind her ending in a stump. She gets around surprisingly well and is a little sweetheart. She shares a cage with Twyla and I've discovered that after I go to bed they snuggle together on the bottom of the cage (Buttons are a poultry bird and don't roost on perches.)

14 & 15) Luke & Anna. White Doves. They were rescues Mom gave to the girls for Christmas. They love being held and if given the chance, Luke would sit with you all day. Anna is a bit more shy but she's getting there.

16) Goliath. A big, beautiful stray cat that was abandoned in Mom's park. He is just the sweetest thing! The first cat since my Tobey-girl that Hubby admits he likes!

17) China. Goffin's Cockatoo. She has a very long story so I'll just link to her blog. Her story and updates are there. The first posts are at the bottom of the page.

18 & 19) Alfie & Tilly. Orange Winged Amazon's. Once again they have a blog.
